The ASN Advances in Research Conference (ARC) 2025 is a specialized, one-day “Early Program” held immediately before the main Kidney Week scientific sessions. For 2025, the ARC theme is “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Kidney Disease Research and Management.”
This focused conference is designed to move beyond the “hype” of AI and provide a rigorous scientific examination of how Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI are actively reshaping nephrology—from accelerating drug discovery to redesigning clinical trials and personalizing patient care.
+ What You Will Learn
The curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between computational science and clinical nephrology. Key learning outcomes include:
Omics Integration: How to use generative AI to analyze large-scale molecular omics data (genomics, proteomics) to identify new therapeutic targets for kidney disease.
Clinical Trial Redesign: Using AI for “Prognostic Enrichment”—identifying patients most likely to benefit from a trial drug—and automating event adjudication to speed up results.
Bias Mitigation: Recognizing and correcting “Algorithmic Bias” in AI models to ensuring that kidney function prediction tools do not perpetuate health disparities.
Generative AI in Practice: Practical applications of AI in drafting clinical notes, summarizing patient histories, and serving as clinical decision support tools.
+ Event Details
Event: Advances in Research Conference (ARC) 2025
Theme: Generative Artificial Intelligence in Kidney Disease Research and Management
Date: Wednesday, November 5, 2025 (One day prior to the main Annual Meeting)
Location: George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, USA
+ Who Should Attend
Physician-Scientists: Looking to integrate AI tools into their basic or translational research labs.
Clinical Trialists: Interested in how AI can reduce the cost and duration of renal clinical trials.
Bioinformaticians: Working in renal pathology or genetics.
Nephrologists: Who want to understand the “Black Box” of the AI tools that are beginning to enter their Electronic Health Records (EHR).
+ Why Attend
The “Cutting Edge”: This is the single most concentrated day of high-level science at Kidney Week. It sets the intellectual tone for the rest of the meeting.
Cross-Disciplinary Faculty: The faculty includes not just nephrologists, but also data scientists and engineers, offering a perspective rarely found in standard medical conferences.
Networking: Because it is a smaller, ticketed event (compared to the 12,000+ person main meeting), it offers a unique opportunity to interact directly with leaders in the field of “Nephro-AI.”
+ Topics
The 2025 agenda is structured into thematic blocks:
Basic Science Applications:
Linking Spatially Resolved Data with Clinical Outcomes.
Blending Biology, Chemistry, and AI to Enable Systems Pharmacology.
Clinical Research Applications:
Prognostic Enrichment and Clinical Trial Design Considerations.
Applications of AI in Event Adjudication.
Generative AI in Clinical Trials: A Driver of Efficiency.
Pathology & Imaging:
From Pixels to Prognosis: The Role of Generative AI in Renal Pathology (e.g., reading biopsy slides).
Ethics & Implementation:
Recognizing and Mitigating Algorithmic Bias in Nephrology.
Post-Trial Implementation and Clinical Decision Support.
