Built like a decision system
Not organised like a textbook
Every page answers one question in the order you actually face it at the chair — so you decide, then inject.
Mark the danger
Palpate the facial artery at the masseter, find the parotid, map the mental foramen — then mark the jaw.
Choose the plane
Plane is the safety decision, not decoration. Subcutaneous for the edge; on-bone for the sharpest angle.
Pick the instrument
Blunt cannula for safe volumising along the edge; sharp needle for defined, on-bone angle and chin.
Deposit & recover
Aspirate every stick, deposit slowly, then follow a two-week aftercare and symmetry check.
Inside the atlas
Ad-clear at a glance. Clinic-precise on the page.
Fig. 17 • Part 1
The lower-face danger-zone master map
Four structures govern every lower-face injection: the facial artery, the artery at the masseter crossing, the parotid, and the mental artery. One map, colour-coded, before any product moves.
Fig. 8 • Part 1
The facial artery at the masseter
A palpable muscle locates an unseen vessel. Ask the patient to clench, feel where the artery rounds the anterior border of the masseter, and work with a cannula from a point away from it.
Part 2 • Cannula technique
The cannula method, step by step
Cut up, aligned to the scale, air removed. One shallow puncture sets the path; the angle bolus anchors the corner; a linear-retrograde pass builds the posterior wall of the mandibular angle.
Fig. 33 • Part 3
The aspiration test — the rule that closes every stick
Stabilise, pull and hold pressure 15–30 seconds, observe the hub, decide. No deposit without a preceding aspiration test — on every point, every time.
Part 4 • Male vs female
The male jaw asks for roughly twice
Angle comparison, chin comparison, skin and tissue differences — quantified. Denser tissue and 20% more collagen are why the dose rises and the angle build changes for men.
