Pterygoid implants have high success rates, similar bone loss levels to those of conventional implants, minimal complications and good acceptance by patients. Therefore, they constitute a reliable alternative for treating patients with atrophic posterior maxilla. Also, the bone density of the pterygoid process is always greater than the bone density of the maxillary tuberosity, and therefore, it should be the choice for implant anchoring in atrophic maxillae.
