Make the most of your memory to pass the Part 1 MRCOG. A system of learning called spaced repetition learning is excellent for improving recall of dry basic science facts. This book explains how to use this system in practice and how it applies to the Part 1 MRCOG. After you have a system for learning, you can test your recall with over 200 SBA questions. There are answers and explanations included. The reason this exam is so hard is that there is a great volume of information to be retained. The information is not that which you use day to day and you likely haven’t thought much about it since medical school. For this reason your ability to recall such facts decays very rapidly. By the time you revise the next section you have forgotten that which you revised before. Using a system of flashcards which come back for review at increasing intervals resets this curve of forgetting until the facts are stored in your long term memory. My aim is that after you spend 40 minutes reading my short book, is that you will have a clear idea of how to transfer the information to your long term memory and pass this exam first time. Start off your revision with a plan that works so that all the time you revise is maximally efficient.
