The research field for teaching and learning with digital media has evolved considerably in recent years. Numerous experimental studies and meta-analyses now form the empirical basis of the individual design effects and the underlying (frame‑) models and (frame‑) theories. In addition, further design principles have been postulated and empirically reviewed, which has led to an increase in design recommendations for learning, especially multimedia learning.
