This Guideline addresses the clinical and laboratory features of transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), as well as its management. TRALI is a life-threatening complication of transfusion that is clinically indistinguishable from the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), but which has a more favorable prognosis. Nevertheless, in the developed nations, it is the second or third most common cause of death from transfusion.
