The book is presented in two major sections: Fundamental Microbiology (Chapters 1-7) and Applied Microbiology (Chapters 8-11). The first section deals with the forms, structures, functions and classification of micro-organisms (bacteria, my co-plasmas and viruses) in the light of the changing concepts. Chapter 7 concentrates on the genetics of micro-organisms giving an insight into the advanced knowledge of molecular biology. The applied aspects of micro-organisms like industrial microbiology, agricultural micro biology and medical microbiology have been accommodated in section two. A separate chapter on Immunology, Hypersensitivity and Serology has been incorporated to familiarize the students with the intricacies of disease resistance and various laboratory practices.
