By Norman C. Gysbers, Mary J. Heppner, Joseph A. Johnston Designed to be read by both aspiring and practicing career counselors, this guidebook covers both theory and practice, and is organized in three parts. The first part brings career counseling up to date, and provides specific focus on aiding clients who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Other chapters cover the provision of services to racial minorities and those with disabilities. A large portion of the second part describes qualitative techniques, such as structured interviews, the genogram, and the occupational card sort. Another chapter covers the traditional testing strategies the authors find most valuable: the Hope Scale, My Vocational Situation (MVS), Self-Directed Search (SDS), the NEO Personality Inventory, the Career Transitions Inventory (CTI), the INSIGHT Inventory, and the Clifton StrengthsFinder. The third part focuses on helping clients to form specific goals and on bringing counseling to a close. For this fourth edition the authors add a chapter on the use of social media in career counseling. The chapter on career development theory also adds consideration of constructivism, social constructivism, and chaos theory. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
