The course will be held July 27-29, 2025, at the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park in Chicago, IL. Approximately five weeks prior to the start of the course, on-demand lectures will be available to registrants of the in-person course.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
Interpret the fundamental concepts of nephrology in the areas of kidney function and structure; sodium and water abnormalities; glomerular and vascular disorders; acid base and potassium disorders; tubulointerstitial disorders and cystic disorders; CKD and ESKD; hypertension; AKI and ICU nephrology; calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium disorders and stones; transplantation; and pregnancy.
Formulate diagnostic and therapeutic options for the management of kidney diseases; and
Test individual medical practice competence against a series of simulated patient/case scenarios.

Board Examination Participants: Individuals are thoroughly prepared for upcoming certification and MOC exams.
Individuals participating in LKA who prefer a holistic review of the ABIM nephrology blueprint.
Nephrology Fellows: Fellows seeking a detailed outline, discussion, and reinforcement of content from their current fellowship program.
Senior Nephrologists: Practicing nephrologists in all key areas of the specialty. The course also benefits pediatric nephrologists, intensivists, and hospitalists.

Na, K & Acid–Base — Disorders of sodium/water balance (hypo-/hypernatremia), potassium handling and dyskalemias, and core acid–base disturbances with case reviews.
Ca, PO₄, Mg & Stones — Mineral metabolism (PTH/Vit D/FGF-23), magnesium disorders, kidney stone pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, and cases.
CKD & ESKD — Major share of board content (~25%): causes/management of CKD, dialysis modalities, BP and CV issues, adequacy, CKD-MBD, drug dosing, vascular access, and case discussions.
Transplant — Donor/recipient evaluation, transplant immunology, biopsy interpretation, infectious & noninfectious complications, immunosuppression, pathology, and high-yield cases.
Hypertension — Essential HTN, renovascular/ischemic nephropathy, secondary causes and diagnostic work-up, hypertensive urgencies/emergencies, with practice cases.
Glomerular Disease — Proteinuria/sediment approach; GN pathophysiology & pathology; primary/secondary GN (incl. vasculitis), amyloid/fibrillary GN/thrombotic angiopathies, viral nephritides, treatment updates, and live cases.
AKI & ICU — AKI assessment/management, nephrotoxins, prevention, acute RRT (modalities & complications), onconephrology/imaging/poisonings, urine microscopy, and ICU-focused cases.
Other — Tubular/interstitial/cystic diseases, pregnancy & the kidney (e.g., HTN, eclampsia, post-lupus/transplant), plus board-style case sets.
