By Iren Bischofberger
In the centre of the book are people who, in addition to their employment, also bear care responsibility for sick, impaired or high-age relatives – i.e. “work & care”. This topic is gaining more and more attention, because it is in the intersection of two scarce resources – the private unpaid worry potential for close ones on the one hand and the acquisition potential on the other.
The thematic field is systematically reviewed – both conceptual theoretical, as well as analytical and involving international research. On this knowledge base, the authors systematically ask what professional, disciplinary and political consequences arise from this – for care science in particular and for health policy reforms in general. These intensively pursued tracks result in contours of a broadly derived personal and organisational compatibility competence.
The book promotes the overdue further development of care science especially in German-speaking countries, which must not remain in the previous torso of research, higher education, care management and clinical practice, but also must play the stage of scientific policy advice. Because here opinion formation is indicated in dialogue with authorities and politics for both nursing science and the orchestration of “work & care”.
