Skin & Soft Tissue Infections: Acute, Recurrent, and Masqueraders
Video Lectures
Learn to Better Manage the Spectrum of Bacterial Skin and Soft Tissue Infection (SSTI) Encountered in Clinical Practice
This course features 5 sessions designed to take the clinician through the entire spectrum of skin and soft tissue infection recognition and management concerns, focusing on community-acquired bacterial infections. Topics include: The Approach, Masqueraders, Life & Limb Threatening, Management, and Recurrent Infections.
Overview
Cellulitis is one of the most common infections encountered in the outpatient and inpatient setting. This course takes the clinician through the entire spectrum of community-acquired bacterial skin and soft tissue infection (SSTI) recognition and management challenges. Beginning with a comprehensive review of the clinical approach to SSTI recognition, including how to assess for less common but important pathogens that lead to a change in treatment, this activity uses cases to emphasize practical clinical points for SSTI management. Topics include purulent and non-purulent cellulitis, core and non-core pathogens and how to assess for unusual causes of SSTI; plus common conditions that mimic SSTI and how to recognize them; how to approach limb and life-threatening SSTI including early recognition and critical steps in initial care; nuances of antimicrobial management including choice of agent and duration of therapy; and ending with what is arguably the most challenging and underappreciated aspect of SSTI clinical care – how to care for individuals with recurrent SSTIs.
Presented by Continuing Education Company (CEC), Mastering Outpatient Infectious Diseases: Beyond the Essentials is series of self-paced online courses designed to update medical professionals on the latest advancements and best practices in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of common outpatient infectious diseases. This CME activity will enable clinicians to be better prepared to manage the spectrum of bacterial community-acquired SSTI encountered in clinical practice and develop greater diagnostic precision in differentiating cellulitis from conditions that masquerade, and therapeutic precision in lymphedema management and antimicrobial prescribing.
