Neuropeptides aims for the rapid publication of original research and review articles that focus on the structure, distribution, actions, and functions of peptides in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. The journal covers a broad spectrum of topics within the field of neuropeptide research, including the identification of endogenous peptides, their roles as neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, or trophic factors, and the development of non-peptide ligands that act on neuropeptide receptors.

Neuropeptides provides a unique platform for integrating various disciplines involved in neuropeptide research. The journal welcomes articles on gene regulation of peptide expression, peptide receptor subtypes, transgenic and knockout models related to neuropeptides, neuroanatomy, physiology, behavior, neurotrophic factors, preclinical drug evaluation, clinical studies, and clinical trials.

The primary focus is on original research papers, but Neuropeptides also accepts review articles and hypothesis papers, which undergo the same rigorous evaluation process as experimental papers.
