The Islamic Republic of Iran implements compensatory incentives that provide financial compensation to unrelated living donors in recognition of their altruistic contributions. Family incentives implemented in Israel and mainland China prioritize organ transplants from donors and/or their family members.

The book argues that a successful incentive model should encompass the types of incentives that are actually effective, politically legitimate, and morally justifiable for a given society.
