The 2024 Boston University Ophthalmology Update and Haimovici Symposium is designed for practicing ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians and medical personnel involved in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. In this program, national and departmental experts will discuss the most advanced medical and surgical treatment options for ophthalmic conditions such as retinal diseases, thyroid eye disease, glaucoma and cornea. This conference is designed to address gaps in knowledge and competence in these areas.
It also includes the Haimovici Lecture. Named in honor of Robert Haimovici, MD, beloved retina specialist who served as the Director of the Retina Service at Boston Medical Center and BUSM from 1994 until his death in 2002, this lecture honors his dedication and professionalism and his deep commitment to education.
This program is for the healthcare team involved in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease including ophthalmologists, optometrists and ophthalmic technicians.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the current treatment options and indications and limitations of treatment modalities for TED
- Describe the current ophthalmic agents available for first line and/or adjunctive treatment of glaucoma.
- Review steps to approach patient with narrow angle. Review steps on how to approach patient with patient with abnormal pupil findings.
- List and review the current treatment algorithm for keratoconus and neurotrophic keratitis
- Reviews the steps to assess setting up a business including how assess the market, feasibility, financial planning and implementation strategies.
- Evaluate for drug toxicity in the retina
- Describe updates in diagnosis and treatment of ocular melanoma
- List secondary intraocular implants options.
- Outline how to connect ocular findings to dementia.
- List the current available retina injectables for retinal disorders.
- Review the treatment for diabetic retinopathy based upon diabetic studies
- Review hybrid models of care in ophthalmology. Review advantages and limitations and lessons to take away post-Covid. Review stratagies to optimize utilization.
- Review forefront research that is helping to build the framework that is bring restorative or rehabilitative vision treatment one step closer to reality.
