Although non-functional, the chin plays an important role in facial esthetic, balance and beauty. The importance of the role of the three dimensional morphology of the chin, in relation to overall facial esthetics is highlighted as part of the systematic correction of dentofacial deformities. The surgical techniques for the correction of deformities in the lower facial third, including tips and traps, serve as a guide, for not only residents and beginning surgeons, but also as a helpful resource for experienced surgeons.Dr. Reyneke holds numerous professorships in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery internationally, including the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, ZA, University of Florida, US, University of Okalahoma, US, and University of Nacional Autònoma de Mexico, San Salvador, MX. He was appointed an extraordinary professor at the University of the Western Cape, ZA (2014), awarded the Fellowship in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery (2003) by peer review in the College of Medicine of South Africa, and obtained his PhD at the University of Tampere, FI (2006). With a passion for Orthognathic and Reconstructive facial surgery, Johan has presented numerous courses and lectures on the subject on every continent, including presenting the Presidential lecture at the 21st Intl Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Barcelona (2013). The author of more than 93 papers in refereed journals and chapters in several well-known textbooks on Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, he has also published several texts, including, Essentials of Orthognathic Surgery, the 2nd Edition of which became available in 2010. He has served on the Exec. Committee (1984-2000) and as President (1994-1998) of the South African Society of Maxillofacial & Oral Surgeons, as President of the College of Maxillofacial & Oral Surgeons of South Africa (2008-2011), on Editorial boards for international journals, and has performed more than 8,950 orthognathic surgical procedures in his 41-year career. His professional awards are too numerous to mention, and amazingly, amidst all this, he finds leisure time to spend on his other passions, art and golf. There is surely no one more qualified to present this new volume than Dr. Johan P Reyneke.
