Vascular Surgery: Anatomic Exposures and Operative Techniques (PDF)

By Dr. Theo R. Quellin

Vascular Surgery: Anatomic Exposures and Operative Techniques by Theo R. Quellin is a comprehensive surgical reference dedicated to the anatomical foundations and operative exposure techniques essential in modern vascular surgery. Designed for vascular surgeons, surgical residents, fellows, trauma surgeons, and advanced medical trainees, this authoritative volume provides a step-by-step guide to safely accessing and managing major arterial and venous structures throughout the body.

Organized into four major sections, the book systematically covers aortic, visceral, pelvic, lower extremity, cervical, upper extremity, and major venous exposures. Each chapter focuses on practical surgical anatomy, operative landmarks, incision planning, dissection strategies, vessel control, and the protection of surrounding nerves and organs during complex vascular procedures.

Coverage includes:

Transperitoneal and retroperitoneal abdominal aortic exposures
Suprarenal and thoracoabdominal aortic approaches
Mesenteric and renal vessel exposures
Aortoiliac and pelvic vascular anatomy
Femoral, popliteal, tibial, and pedal vessel approaches
Carotid, subclavian, axillary, and brachial artery exposures
Inferior vena cava, iliac vein, portal, and renal vein techniques

Special emphasis is placed on operative decision-making, anatomical variations, surgical pitfalls, and exposure techniques used in complex reconstructions, trauma surgery, bypass procedures, limb salvage operations, and hybrid vascular interventions.

With its clinically focused organization and detailed anatomical guidance, Vascular Surgery: Anatomic Exposures and Operative Techniques serves as both an essential training resource and a practical operative reference for surgeons seeking mastery of open vascular surgical anatomy and exposure techniques.
